About Blake

About Me:

“As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.” I mean, I’ve always been a movie fan, not a gangster. As a kid, I would always want to watch movies at a sleepover instead of play games, and talking about movies has been my favorite thing to do for the longest time.

My senior year of high school, I was asked to be the President of the Film Club, which I decided to co-accept with my good friend, Brenton. In 2014, I joined Instagram under the handle “The Cinema Man,” and had a lot of fun reviewing and getting to know the community, but then I took a break before returning as “The Cinema Elite.” With that account and this site, my mission is to create a good online presence in the world of movie conversations on the internet, and become a better movie journalist and film student because I want to be able to study and learn about film in every way.

Currently, I’m a student at Indiana University studying for a BA in English, as well as an individualized major “Fiction and Film” which takes a look at all forms of storytelling from the English and Media Schools, from reading and writing to the steps of film production.

In the future, I hope to be able to take what I learn watching movies and shows, playing games, reading books, and writing stories of my own, and apply all of that into a career that will allow me to tell or study narrative and art for years to come. Thank you for visiting my site and taking the time to read what I have to say!

About This Site:

I have a few goals for this site, the first and most simple is just to write content about entertainment that can be used to start a conversation with other people who also share my interests. With my posts, I hope to inform, educate, and interest people in these forms of entertainment, and hopefully share my love of the movies, books, games and shows that I spend my life with every day.

My review rating system is simple and easy to understand: I rate media on a scale from 0-10, with it able to earn a “+” after the number if it seems like it falls between two whole numbers (example, 6+/10 instead of a 6 or 7). The color background of the post will be one of four colors: a basic red, yellow or green which depends on my recommendation of the film (no, maybe or yes, respectively), or a gold background if I think it stands as something that everybody absolutely needs to experience.

Weekly, I post a Movie Question on Monday, which are open-ended thought-pieces meant to start conversations about a specific topic. I post a Movie Fight on Wednesdays which compare and contrast either two movies, or two ideas surrounding movies which people pick a side on and debate. I also post the Top 5 Friday challenges, which are decided through my Instagram page, and then explained in detail here; these challenges are top five lists of a favorite genre, theme, or filmmaker, etc., usually in celebration of whichever movie is released that week. Also, I try to post reviews of movies, as well as a show, game and book every week.

My Instagram account (@the_cinema_elite) is a good companion to this site, as I post the Movie of the Day on there every morning, as well as announce the New DVD/Blu-Ray Releases on Tuesdays, and New Theater Releases on Thursdays. I post smaller silly/fun things on there as well, with my longer and analytical posts being reserved for this site.

Well, that’s all I have to say for now here, if there’s anything else you’d like to know, always just feel free to ask! This is an open and welcoming environment and I’m consistently encouraging of great conversations. As always, thanks for reading and I’ll see you soon!
